6.ThNew Key Signature, High A

There are no new notes in today's piece, but a new key signature that includes F# and C#. This is used for D major, B minor and a number of modes. The piece is in D major, so this is the scale to get your fingers around - it's written out over an octave and a half to reach a new note, the high A on the first leger line above the stave.

The New Song of Lake Tong-Ting

This is a bit of a cheat - the tune is really in A rather than D, but it does include the two sharps of D major and the new, high A. There's very little scalic movement here, so get ready to leap.

  • Tong Ting is another Chinese tune.
  • Go through the process . . . .
  • Aim for 144bpm

There are some 3/4 rhythms to notate today and you may find that it's worth revisiting some rhythms that you tried a while ago first. Clap, count and loop them until they become familiar. The first two are the commonest.

Here's a 3/4 tune to notate.

  • Two of the patterns above crop up in this, but otherwise you'll only need quarter-notes, half-notes and dotted half-notes.
  • Work out the key signature & rhythm first.
  • Save some ink by using first and second-time endings.
  • There are two bars in, but then the metronome stops . . .
